For selected terms (at MSN's discretion), MSN displays up to 3 "SPONSORED SITES" in the main section of the search results page, just above the "WEB DIRECTORY SITES", and up to 5 "SPONSORED SITES" in the "right rail" (the vertical space running along the right side of the page). For all other terms, MSN displays up to 5 "SPONSORED SITES" in the "right rail" of the search results page.

AltaVista displays up to 4 "Sponsored Matches" at the top of each page of search results, above the "AltaVista results", as well as 1 "Sponsored Site" below the "AltaVista results". Some Sponsored Matches are from advertisers working directly with AltaVista.
